Celebrities Who Are Rocking A Bob

It's official. We have reached peak bob, and the highly coveteable hairstyle doesn't appear to be relenting anytime soon.

Bobs. Bobs with fringes, bobs with a centre parting, bleach blonde bobs, bobs with a sweeping side fringe, lobs, angled lobs, touselled bobs, even rainbow coloured ombré bobs, if you will.

The red carpet has been awash with the shorter style (including the ubiquitous 'lob' haircut), sported by countless A-Listers including Jennifer Lawrence, Rachel McAdams and Saoirse Ronan. It seems there's been more people trading their long tresses for this season's 'it' hairstyle than there have been avocado sandwiches sold in Pret a Manger.

Of course, as with any big commitment, we have plenty of questions.

Bobs aren't exactly new, when did the bob first become popular?

Before the early 20th century - a society in which long cascading locks and gowns were the norm - a bob haircut was seen as an act of defiance.

That soon changed in 1915 when ballroom dancer Irene Castle cut her hair short as a matter of convenience. By the 1920's, the bob became a symbol of modernity and was notably channelled by the iconic actress Joan Crawford (see below).

Are bobs in fashion?

A huge resounding yes. The bob fandom has reached dizzying heights thanks to a number of fashionestas and celebrity devotees channelling the bob including Taylor Swift, Emilia Clarke and Man Repeller's Leandra Medine.

Will a bob suit me?

Hair stylist and innovator John Frieda explains there is a simple yet effective way to determine whether a chin-length cut would be flattering... and it involves a ruler.

'It's all about the angles' Giles Robinson, senior stylist at John Frieda Salons, told Cosmopolitan.

'John studied faces and saw that the angle of the jaw bone determined whether or not someone would look best with short hair or long hair.'

You simply place a pencil horizontally under your chin and measure from the pencil up to your ear. If it is under 5.5cm than a shorter style would look work wonders for your faceshape.

If not, don't be disheartened. You can still work this season's trend no matter what your jaw angle thanks to the glorious 'lob'(long bob), which is universally flattering. We recommend booking a consultation with a hair stylist who can advise on what bob syle has you're name all over it.

A bob is a great base for different textures and looks - whether it is polished and sleek or messy and grungy. Nicky Clarke told the Daily Mail,'It's an easy one to adjust and that's why Taylor Swift's bob is perfect for her.'

You spend less time blow-drying

And washing, straightening and curling for that matter. Anything that means less time with a hairdrying nozzle in our hands gets a yes from us.

It will make you look more 'done'

Which is quite frankly a godsend when you are running late, but don't want to show it.
