Let's talk pink balayage. Ah, balayage – where would we be without this easy, breezy colour trend? It's a hair colour technique that allows us to add an effortlessly sun-kissed tint to our lengths minimal impact on upkeep after the initial hair colour appointment.

As the free-hand colouring technique hits the mainstream, stylists are still constantly experimenting with fresh new takes on balayage, testing out everything from mermaid-esque lilacs and blues to the ‘inverted balayage’ foilyage trend for brunettes. Here we've switched the focus to pink balayage and her's everything you need to know:

Everything You Need To Know About The Pink Balayage Hair Colour Trend:

One of this year's most eye-catching takes on balayage is pink balayage, which involves a wash of pink pastel colour looks to fade seamlessly into darker roots. According to the team at London’s Not Another Salon, the key to adding dimension and texture to the look is using a spectrum of pink tones, rather than just one. If you’ve been won over by Elle Fanning’s recent dye job but are looking for a lower maintenance way to wear the pink hair colour trend, this could well be the answer.

Tempted to upgrade your bronde balayage to this more daring hue? We caught up with Sophia Hilton, director of Not Another Salon and INNOLuxe ambassador, to talk through the best way to switch up your colour.

What is the inspiration behind the pink balayage look?

'This is a hair colour trend that's emerging because the vast amount of clients that have experimented with balayage hair colour techniques over the last few years are now wanting something new. These clients are not willing to get rid of their beautiful balayage look because they still LOVE easy maintenance hair.'

Can the pink balayage look work on darker hair?

'Darker hair will lift to a yellow and when blush is applied it will turn the tone into a peach. But to be honest, our clients love that too!'

What does a pink balayage hair colour appointment involve?

'The client would go through the motions of a regular balayage hair colour appointment and the pink shade would be applied afterwards at the backwash instead of a normal toner. At Not Another Salon we make up little pots of colour for the clients to take home so they can top their pink look up during every other wash. These colours fade quickly! So a means of topping it up at home is essential.'

How can you protect the condition of your hair when you’re choosing a dramatic new colour like pink?

'I never colour someone's hair without using INNOluxe anymore. A few drops of this actually rebuilds the structure of the hair as the bleach is breaking it down! Even after bleach, a client will leave saying their hair feels better than before. It sounds too good to be true, but for us, it's been the best thing that has been invented in over 10 years.'

What sort of aftercare would this look need?

We get all of our clients to use the follow up INNOluxe product 'ELIXIR’ - this continues rebuilding the hair weeks after the service. We just don't believe that bleach needs to mean damage anymore – it’s 2016! We also give clients little take home pots of colour to be applied in the shower. Homecare is really important.
