Want softer, smoother locks? Let us talk you through the many benefits of using argan oil for hair. This hair-friendly super-ingredient is rich in fatty acids and vitamin E which makes it extremely beneficial for improving hair condition. Used by top stylists and A-listers across the world, here’s why you should be adding argan oil into your haircare regime…
Frizz-fixer to-go
As well as improving hair condition over time, argan oil-based products are also great frizz fixers. “Argan oil is one of nature’s natural healers,” Gareth Williams, Headmasters Artistic Ambassador tells us. “Elixir by Kerastase contains a high concentration of Aragon oil, but also camomile, which is really soothing for the hair fibre.
“You can use it pre-shampoo (for added hydration) post-conditioner (to reveal a radiant blow-dry) and post-blow-dry (to tame any annoying fly aways).” It also has a bonus beauty property… “This is the perfect handbag product and also makes nails healthier too, Which is always good news,” Gareth tells us.
Blow-dry protection
Add argan oil into your blow-dry routine to help retain the moisture in your locks. “A personal must, argan oil is rich in nutrients and essential fatty acids that help to moisturise the hair,” Vincent Allenby, creative director at Trevor Sorbie, Manchester, tells us.
“Simply use three pumps and rub into the hands. Work it round your hands front to back (this stops excess oil in any area on application) proceed to rub the oil through your hair mid-lengths to ends only. Blow-dry lotion is applied on top, then proceed with blow dry. Once finished use one pump in the same fashion to gloss and moisturise again. You can use one pump daily or as required to refresh your hair.”
Anti-ageing skin hero
Using argan oil on your hair can also benefit your face – argan oil’s anti-oxidant properties make it a great anti-ageing product, so by using it on your hair, it’s likely some oil will be absorbed into your skin and neck, boosting plumpness and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Hair softener, easy on the oil.
If you want to boost your hair’s moisture levels without leaving hair looking or feeling oily, don’t write off argan oil. “If you're worried about oily hair then try the hand test first by applying one pump and work in like a hand cream,” advises Vincent Allenby. “After 5-10 minutes it will have absorbed leaving hands soft and moisturised thus the same applies to your hair.”
Top tip: When it comes to argan oil, you get what you pay for. “Argan oil has become the holy grail of hair ingredients in recent years,” says [Sally-Ann Tarver, Consultant Trichologist at The Cotswold Trichology Centre & Theradome](http://www.cots-tri.co.uk / www.theradomeforhairloss.co.uk). “It imparts shine and moisture to the hair but unfortunately the concentration of Argan oil in most preparations is too low to be of much cosmetic benefit. This is because Argan Oil in its raw form is a very expensive ingredient, hence the higher the concentration, the more expensive the product is.” So you might have to part with some pennies to get the results you want.
