Stella McCartney's beauty look was just like the woman herself this season: a British girl in Paris. With all the refined gloss of Parisian chic (glowing skin, healthy full brows), plus a few quintessentially countryside touches (flyaway hairs, freckle-dappled complexions), Pat McGrath and Eugene Souleiman created a look that had the best of both worlds.
Of course, when you have both Pat (who has an OBE for her services to makeup) and Eugene (the arguable father of catwalk hair) together, you've already got something of a dream team going on. Backstage, we saw Pat meticulously overseeing each model's complexion, including some famous faces like Edie Campbell and Binx Walton. Brows were brushed through, then filled in lightly with pencil to create a full, but natural arch, while when it came to skincare, facialists from Sunday Riley were plumping each girl's complexion with an application of their glow-giving Good Genes serum (£85.00).
With hair, Eugene didn't stray far from the wet-look fever of the moment. Hair was slicked back into a tight pony, doused in gel and then, using his hand, Eugene stroked the hair against the grain to tease up flyaways. Pieces round the face were slicked against the forehead and temples for a sporty look, while ones around the grown flew loose and carefree. Think a ponytail for the 21st century girl: she's on-the-go, she's active, but she still has a sophisticated edge.
The British girl in Paris is many things - she's fresh and natural, like a true Parisenne and she's unfussy and a little mussed-up, like any London girl. And she's always, always chic.
