Before enlisting the shoe-designing skills of Sarah Jessica Parker, New York label Tome was well on its way to cult status. With more buzz already surrounding the label than a full, hyperactive hive, an extra leg-up via SJP’s stiletto-loving ways will today jettison them into a far-reaching circle, outside of the fashion elite (who are probably aiming to hold Tome tight as a secret anyway). A knock-out runway show was followed quick-smart by an intimate cocktail and canapés get-together at Clover Café on 10 Downing Street (not David Cameron’s crib in London, but in New York City).
Skyscraper spindly courts – with the brand’s now signature stripe on the back – have been reworked in collaboration with SJP’s one-year-old eponymous shoe label, producing a selection of styles that will be available soon via Moda Operandi’s trunk show, along with the label’s A/W’15 clothing.
This is, in fact, SJP’s first-ever designer collaboration of the sort, and when you imagine the blockbuster fashion offers that must come her way, something special must’ve lured her in. Ryan Lobo, one half of the design duo behind Tome, explained that the process of snaring one of the style world’s leading ladies was surprisingly quite simple.

‘It happened, as they say, organically. We’re longstanding fans of the lady, Sarah Jessica Parker, and I happened to know somebody who knew her and we asked. We really loved her shoes and we’re a New York brand and there are few people more iconic or iconically New York.’ Too true. ‘Some collaborations are a pleasure, some fall into a different basket and this was the former - it was a real pleasure,’ admitted Ryan.
Once the agreement fell into place things moved on swiftly over a couple of months with an easy ‘exchange of ideas’. But it wasn’t all emails and Skype convos, oh no. SJP of course put these new shoes to the test not only in situ this evening but in person along the design process, to ensure they were just right. ‘She put the shoes on and she showed us how they look and most importantly she showed us how they looked wearing Tome,’ said Ryan. We’d like to do the same, pretty please.
