As the bells chimed and the lights fell, Richard Nicoll's first model enchanted the mood in an ethereal fibre optic slip dress. The frock emitted a turquoise light, setting the catwalk and indeed the whole room aglow. Appearing almost like an incandescent jelly fish in the depths of the ocean, the piece was created with tech company Studio XO. Nicoll also collaborated with luxe sportswear label Sweaty Betty and the entire Spring/Summer 2015 show was sponsored by Disney's Tinkerbell.
Tink played her starring role in the shape of mirrored Perspex hanging from metallic bum bags worn over the shoulder while the audience was taken on a trip to Never Never Land.
First off pearlised slip dresses were decorated with square pailettes, which shimmered like mermaid scales. Whilst the silhouette was fluid with 90's long line layered slip dresses, there was a overriding utilitarian theme. Iridescent fabric windbreakers and hoodies were worn beneath floor-skimming trench coats and layered further with stripy knitted crop tops and shorts. There was leather - a pair of immaculately cut dungarees were standout- but it was soft and feminine thanks to its pale lilac hue.
Prints made an appearance with washed-out paisley and gingham, a print that the designer has worked with in previous seasons. Grey and white checks backed cardigans and covered short suits while wide gauge knits were sweetly constructed into vest dresses and oversized jumpers in pale pastel shades.
Even when the looks took on a darker palette of inky blacks and navy, a lightness was still in the air thanks to the fluid silks and fabrics which finished off this serene show perfectly.
