There’s nothing like finding a new trend that you can’t wait to wear. When you watch the shows and the presentations at Fashion Week and you spot a style or a way of wearing something, you get this rush of excitement and instantly imagine all the fabulous ways you’re going to wear it and all the fabulous places you’re going to wear it to.
So, imagine our delight when watching the all-digital 080 Barcelona Fashion shows and presentations. Showcasing the best in emerging and established talent coming out of the city, we discovered some of our new favourite designers and spied the trends that we’ll be wearing in the coming season. Here’s the top five that you’ll see us in very, very soon.
Slip Right Through
Remember that iconic picture of Kate Moss wearing that Liza Bruce slip dress? Ever since that moment, we’ve adored the slip dress, which is why we’re so delighted to see it making a comeback (did it ever really go away?). Replicate the supermodel’s style with this part-sheer number from the exquisite Eiko Ai, which exudes simplicity and glamour. We’re also loving Sita Murt’s take on the slip, pairing it with an oversized cardigan or heavy knitwear, for a look that’s as slinky as it is comfy.
Over the Top Tailoring
When it comes to tailoring, our first point of reference will always be that Yves Saint Laurent Le Smoking jacket. It’s sexy and figure-skimming. But this season, we’re excited to have a little bit fun with tailoring. We want it oversized and irreverent. We love the brazen shoulders and statement collar on this The Label Edition number – it’s bright, bold and beautiful, which is everything we’re looking for.
Into the Blue
This season, the lady doesn’t just sing the blues, she wears them too. We saw blue across the catwalks this season, from full looks to statement pieces and accessories. Our wardrobes won’t be complete without this Lera Mamba one-shouldered number, which is the epitome of understated elegance. And thise matching accessories are the perfect finishing touch. Otherwise, we’ll be following Lebor Gabala’s lead and donning a blue-hued accessory like this fringed shawl.
Coat of Charms
This season, there is only one rule to outerwear: wear whatever you want. If you want to wear a sage-coloured, luxurious trench coat (thank you Eiko Ai), go for it. If you want to go all out with big proportions, metallic sheen, floral print and utilitarian details, Custo has got you covered. Going for a more retro vibe (in this season’s blue colour), Lera Mamba has a cute number with your name on it. Want to wear a grey cocoon? Here’s one, courtesy of Txell Miras. When it comes to coats, anything goes.
Cardigan Comforts
We love it when a trend is stylish and practical, which is why we will be fully embracing the oversized cardigan this season. Spotted at the likes of Sita Murt, Lebor Gabala and The Label Edition, the voluminous cardigan is one of those pieces that you can add to any look and it ties it all together. Whether it’s a crop top and skirt, as seen at Yerse and which we’ll be replicating immediately, or a slip (two trends in one – we love to see it), we think that the big comfy cardigan is going to be this season’s winning look.
