Snow, slush and plummeting temperatures aside there are LOTS of things to look forward to this New York Fashion Week. Kicking off tomorrow with no-doubt a chic uptown blow-dried swish, here’s what’s on our must-see, must-do, must-not-miss list…
1. Peter Copping’s debut at Oscar de la Renta:
The ex-Nina Ricci designer has big shoes to fill in the wake of Oscar de la Renta’s untimely passing last year, but the fashion world is 100 per cent behind his debut collection for Autumn/Winter 2015. We are intrigued to see a modern Parisian twist on Uptown style – and a sneak peak has been revealed by team ODLR via a instagram video shot by Fabien Constant showing a seven day countdown until the show.
2. adidas Originals x Kanye West:
We’ve seen the new Yeezy sneaks (modeled by the man in question to a pre-Grammys party), witnessed the press gifting from behind the scens on wifey Kim’s instagram and we know there’s a seating plan that involves some sort of performance (hallelujah for social media) – but we expect much more to come from Kanye’s adidas Originals launch.
3. The Awesome Rosie Assouline:
This new-ish addition to the NYFW scene was the designer-of-choice for the FROW last season – her billowing off-the-shoulder shirts were wildly popular despite their hefty price tags. She continues to strengthen her aesthetic as well as her fan club and stockists – what must-have luxury item will Rosie offer next?
4. Moncler’s Taxiboat:
Setting up what will no doubt be an impressive stage in the Navy Yard that Dior used for the Resort 2015 collection, Moncler Grenoble will be taxiing their guests by boat. Chic in the winter, non? Blankets at the ready!
5. Adam Selman’s new collection:
So this is a good prediction of what one of Adam’s key clients – a certain Miss Rihanna Fenty – will be wearing either right away (as she just have first dibs, obvvy) or next season.
6. Man Repeller’s new styling:
We can always rely on Leandra Medine of uber-blog Man Repeller to produce a new styling trick. One recent one has literally been up her sleeve – silk scarf tying around her wrists, to be exact.
7. Fighting The Fashion Elements:
The terrain’s gonna be a bit wild, you know. The sidewalks will be awash with snow-gear, faux fur, snuggly hats and Lenny Kravitz-worthy jumbo-scarves. There will also be the madcap bunch who decide that bare legs and strappy sandals are also perfectly appropriate… what will we enjoy watching more?
8. Victoria Beckham’s Catwalk Bow:
Yes yes, we want to see the clothes very very much, but we always want to see what the leading lady herself chooses to wear for her catwalk bow. It usually marks a seasonal shift in her style choices – remember when she ditched the platforms? Or heralded in the new wave of long shorts?
9. SJP’s New Shoes:
We may be knee-deep in sludge but if anyone could crack out a stiletto in the snow, it’s Sarah Jessica Parker. Already a shoe designer with her own label, SJP is now about to present a footwear collaboration with the highly sought after label Tome NYC, designed by Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo. Expect colour-pop satin courts a plenty.
10. Major Model Moments:
The big agencies have revealed their fashion week packages of new faces – but who will bag the most high profile spots? We’re well into Imaan Hammam who bagged the opening slot for Givenchy for S/S’15 and also walked at some key NYFW shows like Marc Jacobs and Hugo Boss.
11. The Kendall/Gigi/Hailey Girl Gang:
Our invitation into this tight-knit super-stylish group must’ve got lost in the pesky post! Highly likely we’ll see the three new musketeers gadding about fashion town in their skinny jeans and beanie hats…. even if it’s just via social media.
