What better place than backstage at some of New York’s hottest shows to check out all the gorgeous beauty trends for spring/summer 2015. And whilst next spring might seem like an age away (still showing off your post-holiday pedi? We are…) there are a whole host of hair and makeup trends that we just cannot wait to tell you about. After all- practice makes perfect, as they say, so read on to discover the 6 beauty trends you should be trying right now. Hello, beautiful…
1. Plaits
(Jason Lloyd Evans)
As seen at Peter Som, Suno and DKNY, the humble plait is making no sign of disappearing any time soon. Whether you like yours sleek and chic a la Peter Som or super-chunky and texturised as seen as Suno- there’s plenty of plaitspiration to be had this season. Get twisting, ladies!
2. Ponytails
(Jason Lloyd Evans)
Hurrah for the low slung pony! Forever a Grazia fave, this stunning hairstyle is causing quite the buzz over in the Big Apple this season and it’s not hard to see why- stylish and easy to wear, the ponytail is the ultimate sports-luxe beauty accessory. Not just simple and functional, the ponies we spied behind the scenes at Alexander Wang and Prabal Gurung were some of the chicest we’ve ever seen.
3. Lit-from-within skin
(Jason Lloyd Evans)
The whole ‘no make-up’ make-up trend has seriously upped its game- from a flawless complexion to a real glowing offering, the future’s looking bright for next season’s skin. "Strong and energetic - the look is clean with moisturized skin paired with accentuated highlighting and contouring to bring out the strength of the girl's features," explained makeup maestro Diane Kendal backstage at Alexander Wang.
4. Lavender Eyes
(Jason Lloyd Evans)
Makeup artist Tom Pecheux described this gorgeous look at Derek Lam as a “purple haze” across the eyes. A gorgeous blend of mauve and lavender, this flattering hue will make dark and pale skins alike totally pop. Think of it as your new season smoky eye- just remember to keep your foundation light and the rest of your makeup pared-back to keep the purple looking cool rather than heavy.
5. Groomed brows
(Jason Lloyd Evans)
It’s all about working with what you’ve got next season, so get ready to embrace your natural brow. Look to Victoria Beckham’s show for inspiration- brush them up and keep them groomed, ladies!
6. Nail Art
(Jason Lloyd Evans)
Whether it's bold nail art or a simple nude style, there isn't a talon that heads down the catwalk untouched. So listen up nail art fans- as you’ll be pretty chuffed to hear that there’s a whole host of gorgeous new styles for you to try out. From the petal power nails at Desigual to nautical offerings at Ann Yee- the only problem you’ll have is deciding which to go for!
