The London Fashion Week schedule is renowned for being packed with young talent. But last night at the BFC courtyard show space at Somerset House we encountered a break out presentation from the latest bright young thing on everyone's lips, Molly Goddard. Here are the 5 things you need to know about the newcomer...
1. Her design DNA is ball gowns go to East London.
A ball gown is rarely the go to item of choice for a young designer, but gowns are at the core of Molly Goddard's work. Her take on the ball gown however, is to put T-shirts under her tiered tulle dresses and rip frills apart at the seams. This girl is basically taking the ball gown to East London.
*Style side note: *one notable styling tip to take away from last night was wearing wide leg trousers under 10 metres of tulle is a-ok.
**2. She loves a fashion meets art moment. **
When it comes to presentations it's always quite the challenge to make what is basically a couple of models stood around in a space interesting. Well at the Molly Goddard presentation last night the designer rose to the challenge by having models sat around a naked man life drawing. Casual.
3. Molly is a Central Saint Martins MA graduate.
Molly graduated from the prestigious Central Saint Martins MA programme in 2012. Having been tutored by the late Louise Wilson, Goddard is part of an elite group of designers including Christopher Kane.
4. Molly has got quite the CV.
Goddard has interned at Meadham Kirchoff and John Galliano. Indeed her aesthetic seems like a hybrid of Galliano's high octane drama dresses and Kirchoff's kitch goth.
5. She has quite the girl gang.
As one of east London's new it talents it's no surprise that she has quite girl gang and the likes of Phoebe Collings James were in attendance. Well someone who has previously designed a collection based entirely on The Spice Girls, is the kind of gal we want to be pals with.
