Giles Autumn Winter 2015: A Great British Ghost Tale

Giles: A Great British Ghost Tale

Rounding off Day 4 of LFW’s proceedings with a seriously spooky swish, Giles coaxed the fashion crowds – at what felt like the toll of midnight and not because of the schedule, but because of the eerie location - to the now abandoned Central Saint Martins college building in Holborn. Its creaky floorboards, shadowy corridors and large windows that let only darkness in provided a stage for a grand, gloomy fashion offering that was more lounge show than standard up-and-down runway presentation. The stellar cast of models - equally - did more than walk. styled to perfection by Katie Grand, they embodied the spirits of Giles’ inspiration: rich girls, interrupted, the kind you may have caught a glimpse of, wandering through Chelsea Physic Garden after it’s closure in the 17th Century.

Here’s what we enjoyed most from Giles’ immersive Autumn Winter 2015 show…

1. The model line up

Where to begin? Jessica Stam. Edie Campbell. Lily Donaldson. Erin O’Connor. Kendall Jenner. The legendary Pat Cleveland’s daughter Anna, spinning like a possessed jewellery box ballerina to showcase Giles’ ruffled finale look… this was no ordinary casting, rather a cherry picking of the best: super, established, hot tickets and those set-to-soar. And each of them took a different character – some extraverts, some timid mice, some wild and dancing, others serious and schoolmarmish.

2. The black lip

This is very tempting to try on a winter’s night out. But, the pale skin in check is necessary for making it look extra dramatic. We’ll take the plait and hair bow, too.

3. A haute haunted house

Ghoulish as this show location was, no detail had been left unconsidered. Each room was dimly lit, strewn with moss and aging orchids, botanical prints and drawings were pinned to doors and walls.

4. White ruffled blouses

We want one. Part Elizabethan, part Charles II, part Louis XV… a whole lot of get-in-our-closets-now. Failing that, we’ll just add a Giles ruff to our repertoire.

5. The sash is a thing

Not the first time we’ve seen the sash popping up within the collections of A/W’15, but certainly the most traditional satin ones here. The new statement belt? Quite possibly.
