2015 saw a whole host of new labels making it onto our radar and redefining fashion in the process. Boho got a new lease of life, thanks to Vita Kin’s sell-out folk inspired dresses, Rachel Comey’s cropped flares were the unexpected trouser silhouette of choice for every self-respecting street styler, while Finery and Zara’s big sister Uterque became the new high-end high street stores to know. And, there’s plenty more cool breakout brands where they came from.
We’ve looked into our crystal balls to predict the labels that are going to be huge in 2016. Invest now and reap the style points all year long...
1. Vetements
If there’s one fashion brand worth investing in ASAP, it’s Rihanna-approved Vetements. The French design collective launched last year, and by September their punk aesthetic had won the hearts of street-style It-girls everywhere - their asymmetric, outsized designs were spotted countless times at Fashion Week. Come October, Balenciaga snapped up one the brand's designers, Demna Gvasalia, as their new artistic director. Needless to say, the next collection is awaited with bated breath.
2. Kalita
London-based Kalita Al Swaidi and Bali-based Raechel Temily are the duo behind Kalita, an exciting new resort-wear label that has redefined the term ‘holiday wardrobe’… for the better. From easy transeasonal stables, to statement maxi’s, the capsule collection brings together the best of summer dressing, all with a ‘Kalita twist’ – think silk dresses paired with your favourite converse, or a billowing maxi with a beaten leather jacket thrown on top. Your new holiday wardrobe starts here...
3. Rose Rankin
We love a pair of classic Stan Smiths as much as the next, but for statement kicks Rose Rankin is our new go-to. The sleek hi and mid-tops are handmade in Portugal, and look and feel seriously luxe with metallics, colour pops and animal print detailing.
4. Camilla Elphik
If you like your accessories to do all the talking, then you’ll fall head over heels for Camilla Elphik. She won the hearts of the fashion industry after debuting her ‘So Bad It’s Good’ graduate collection and launched her label in time for Spring Summer ’15. She’s in a league with shoe makers Sophia Webster and Nicholas Kirkwood with her cool, kitsch designs - and incidentally, she worked with both of them before going solo.
5. Bam-B
If delicate but statement jewellery is your thing, then Brittany Glossop and Caitlin Briody's London-based label Bam-B is guaranteed to make you turn magpie. The brand’s minimalist designs have gained a cult following, which includes Lady Gaga. Our favourite pieces are the initialed bangles and brilliant heart eye emoji necklace.
6. Natasha Zinko
Ukranian designer Natasha Zinko trained as a jewellery designer, and after branching out into clothing too, her designs became a runaway hit with the Instagram and street style set. Fans include Pandora Sykes and Leandra Medine. Her daisy and rainbow prints in fun, breezy silhouettes are the perfect antidote to your New Year blues.
7. NIN3LIVES
NIN3LIVES is the up and coming independent brand you have to keep your eye on. Inspired by a trip from Las Vegas to California, the streetwear line screams summer. The collection features varsity jackets, printed tees and this season’s staple, the hoodie- the key ingredients for Californian cool. Each collection by the brand will feature a one off exclusive piece and collector’s item.
