From mannish shoes and eased tailoring to giant bouncy knits this was a show that took care of many a modern miss’s needs. And that is just as might be expected from Italy’s master of all things masculine wardrobe-inspired and minimal.
Here are the five things we loved...
Black and red all over
Tailoring, predominantly in black, was given a vampish twist by the addition of accents of cherry red – a shade that is entirely of the moment across the board. So, think a black trouser suit with a red windowpane check and buttons, red croc effect leather shoes (flat) and red clutch bag. Even hair and make-up reflected this colourway: black choppy wigs and a glossed, deep red lip.
Funnel necks
these were huge during London Fashion Week and even huger in Milan. It’s a protection thing we gather – feel warm, cosy and cossetted in your clothes – which given it’s the autumn season makes sound sense.
Big knits
An oversized mohair dress with a sweet, bouncing skirt looked suitably gorgeous in ultraviolet. Falling to just below the knee, even this was worn over cigarette leg trousers. And that brings us neatly to our next point…
Layering
Shirts buttoned to the throat under black velvet cocktail dresses, anyone? The forthcoming season will be a covered one if the masters of Italian fashion are to be believed which – obviously – they are. No flashing of flesh please. Instead, it’s demure all the way.
Butterfly accessories
If Mr Armani’s look for Emporio was – overall – quite severe, it was softened by butterfly broaches – cherry red ones, again – and even big, red butterfly earrings. Also of note and not solely for alliterative purposed: bows. They were big here and also at Prada. Consider that a trend, then.
