Carven’s girl is always a cheeky one but today she added the part of the rebel to her complex character. Perhaps that element is down to the new design duo who debuted today, Adrien Caillaudaud and Alexis Martial. Here’s what stood out…
1. 60s chicks
With their micro mini skirts, natty belted knits and school-girlish coats, Adrien and Alexis nailed the London girl in Paris look that they had aimed for. It was the socks and chunky shoes that provided an extra slice of British verve.
2. Extra-skinny high-waisted pants
These were plentiful and but a stirrup away from the 1980s (especially when paired with a blouse or cropped jacket avec extra volume in the sleeve). This silhouette referenced the idea of retro après-ski once more – cementing the slopes as the destination for next winter’s fashion set.
3. Floral jacquards
These metallic and textural floral fabrics would’ve once up on a time been made into a high-necked evening gown, but the designers cut them into whizzier, tighter, faster shapes and so retro was reworked once again.
4. Colour combinations
A deep mauve with khaki? Yes. We’ll be copying that quick-smart.
5. Eelskin
The new leather? Sounds weird but definitely worked nicely with Carven’s lightweight-but-oversized overcoats. Especially the grey patchworked one – just right for a day like today where the sun is shining but the cold still nips.
