It's back... Again

First things first: we all know the bum bag (or ‘fanny pack’, depending on which side of the pond you are from) is kind of hateful. But if you’re willing to overlook the obvious downsides — the aesthetics, the rep, the way it cinches your clothes… Take your pick — it has its benefits.

We’re not talking about those vintage store bargain bin university throwbacks. The bumbag 2.0 been sleekened up and streamlined and, thanks to Gucci, it’s having a renaissance.

They are undeniably practical — for holidays, festivals and days you want to carry nothing but your Dr Paw Paw — and, with the industry’s obsession with useability over the past few seasons, that's justification enough.

And — quelle surp — they haven’t gone unnoticed by the Insta-fashion crowd. Kendall Jenner has been championing the trend with a brown leather Louis Vuitton bumbag, around her waist with a festival vibe Self-Portrait jumpsuit, but also around her shoulder over a striped Wolk Morain two-piece. The Kardashasisters have followed suit, with Kourtney wearing a classic Chanel over jeans.

It's not just people related to Kimmy K who have fallen for their charm; Kate Hudson, Fergie, Rihanna, Matthew McConaughey.

Here’s how you should be wearing the bumbag in 2017…

Stella reworked the classic bumbag at her SS17 show, dressing models in knitted skirts and tops with belt bumbags. Recreate on your summer vacay but don't wear over anything remotely A-line or floaty as you risk looking like a hot air balloon.

It’s the simplest way to get around the ruching issue — wear it around your waist over a high-waisted trouser. You may looking a little teeny-bopper, but just ensure your choice of bumbag is fash enough to deal with it.
