The Red Carpet has seen the return of a boxy-shouldered old friend of late – the trouser suit. But if the idea of power dressing conjures up visions of pinstripes and black polyester, think again. This season, tuxedo dressing has gone technicolour.

On the A/W ’15 catwalks, Gucci set the alternative-suit mood with claret-red and bottle-green tailoring for an eclectic, androgynous collection that many stores are now emulating. The A-list have wasted no time in, erm, following suit, and picking up the brightly coloured baton are Beyoncé in tequila-sunrise orange Barbara Bui, and Carey Mulligan in powder blue Marc Jacobs (nabbed straight from their S/S ’16 catwalk, no less) among others.

The key to getting it right? Forgo a frilly blouse – a tonal slip top (or none at all, like Jen) lends a feminine edge to this boyish staple. And don’t be tempted to default to navy or black – this season’s 70s-inspired mustard, burgundy and teal hues win our vote. But whatever palette you plump for, the two-piece is definitely the one.
