There’s no other designer who does sexy quite like Altuzarra. Some do it overtly, others avoid it altogether for the fear that it isn’t taken as serious fashion stuff. Unsexy is often most desirable in trend-setting circles. Joseph Altuzarra however makes dressing sexy look easy, relaxed… that in turn only serves to make his girls even sexier.

For Pre Fall he took them on a romp through the British countryside – although we’re fairly certain the Costwolds wouldn’t ever have borne witness to such a stretch of exposed thigh or leopard print or quite so much stiletto action… but Altuzarra can take almost any starting point – even that of a quilted outdoorsy jacket or utility cargos – and craft it into something seductive.

Well, for Autumn/Winter 2015 the Jilly Cooper-esque jaunt doesn’t stop – in fact, the girls have made it to the mansion and had a sneaky rifle through a trunk full of Edwardian fashion antiquities: delicate-looking lace, high collared blouses from some artisto can now be worn under boxy, cut off jackets, with the ever-present slit-to-there skirt and Steam Punk-ish knee boots. Or a trousseau-like slip-of-a-dress worn not for ‘that special night’ but for day, any given day, with a black ribbon choker and those same fierce boots.

Hunting tweeds left their loose-fits back on the farm and instead Altuzarra cut them into skinny-mini silhouettes suitable for a city girl. And then there was the new injection of handbags – the first arm candy outing for the designer and, alongside the checks and pimpin’ fur collars, the messenger’s braiding and fringing swung a foxy ‘70s slant into this already varied offering. The disco dresses at the end were particularly strong and will no doubt appeal to Altuzarra’s leading ladies, like Rihanna or Carine Roitfeld.
