New York Fashion Weekis nearly done and dusted for another season - can you believe it?! - and while we've been bringing you all the backstage action and our insider diaryfrom the snowy city, now it's time to look back at the top trends that have hit the many, many catwalks over the past seven days. From plunging necklines and dressing gown chic to plaid delights and prep school shorts, here's our roundup of what you'll be wearing come Autumn Winter 2014.

For starters, how low can you go?Donna Karanand Tory Burch took the plunge with necklines which were deep enough to make a young man blush while Diane Von Furstenberg treated us to floor-sweeping gownswith down-to-there necklines for a perfect mix of elegance and youthful sensuality. Top of our wish list is DVF's swoon-worthy sheer maxi dress covered in gold stars.

Next up, we have all that glitters, but it was less glitzy glamour and more about a metallic edge. The model army at Marc By Marc Jacobsdid the 'Bunny Hop' in shimmering silver dresses with Wednesday Adams plaits perfect for the label's whole new attitude. At 3.1 Phillip Lim, we saw futuristic zip-up coats covered in sparkling embellishments while a purple Austin Powers-esque ensemble popped up at Rodarte.

The model that's had everyone talking this season is surely Natalie Westling. The model's bolt of bottle-red hair has ensured she stands out from the crowd and it was a fitting accessory for nailing the Miss Scarlet trend of the season. Yes, Natalie's tresses complemented the all-rouge ensemble she showcased at the Prabal Gurung show which consisted of a huge knotted scarf, matching knitted sweater and sarong-style sheer skirt all in a bright crimson tone. Over at Oscar de la Renta, it was all about the statement red coat worn over a deep blood-red velvet frock and Costello Tagliapietra gave us a super-elegant two-tone shift dress.

Going for grey also dominated the catwalks and we saw suits in a sober palette at DKNY as well as Jason Wu. If it's a more youthful look you're after, say hello to the two-piece at Marc By Marc Jacobs which featured cobalt blue lapels and wide black belts cinching in the waist, ninja style. Wear with white high-top trainers for the ultimate MBMJ edge. Speaking of grey, hands up if you're ready for prep school shorts. This was a major trend at the New York shows with grey knee-length numbers cropping up at Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone and JCrew.

We'll also be working dressing gown chic this Autumn according to Altuzarra, Suno and Creatures of the Wind. We saw loungewear-inspired dresses in luxury cashmere with belts knotted to the side from Altuzzura, breezy, easy bathrobe-like frocks at Creatures of the Wind and grey trouser sets with plaid lining at Suno.

Adding to the melange were mad for plaid pieces. Tommy Hilfiger in particular took pointers from hipster authenticity with his dose of lumberjack style via tartan patchwork dresses and shirts paired with matching flirty kilts and shearling lined booties.

Finally, there was a catwalk white out to match the city's snowy conditions. Diesel Black Gold's polo-necked cover-ups were exactly what we wanted to be wearing in the icy chill while the white skirt suit worn with black leather boots at Derek Lam is perfect office material.
