You know what period in history has enabled the most bizarre and often extremely unflattering hairstyles? Not the times of Jane Austen, when women wore curls all around the front of their heads, hell, not even the nineties with space bopper buns and hair gel. No, it was the early noughties. And no one channeled these hair styles better than teen sensation Lizzie McGuire.
Ever since Hilary Duff confirmed the rumours of a Lizzie Mcguire reunion coming soon to Disney+, we've been dying to how see Lizzie's signature noughties style will work for the now-30 year-old. Duff is reprising the role, but this time she's all grown up - the reboot sees the titular character living in New York, and trying to navigate the big city as a millennial.
While we wait for details of the new series, we're filling the time by looking over some of her most iconic hair moments.
So sit back, turn up This Is What Dreams Are Made Of, and enjoy....
1. One Hairstyle, So Much Going On
Miranda often gave Lizzie a run for her money with her pink pompoms and avant-garde approach to attire, but Lizzie usually came out on top eventually. Her fondness for butterfly clips was admirable and we definitely attempted to recreate this look on more than one occasion.
2. Like A Birdsnest, But For Your Head
She's not even sorry.
3. Those Strands Are Not There By Accident
Ah, the dishevelled bunches look. This was definitely not a thing before, or even after Lizzie McGuire, so consider this a time capsule of hair history. But don’t be tricked into thinking this is just any regular, thrown together hair style – no, no. Note the carefully pulled-out side strands, the strategically not-quite-perfect fringe…
4. 'What, This? Just Something I Pulled Together...'
And then we have the loosely crimped ‘do. Another looks-thrown-together-actually-takes-ten-hours-to-master hair style that’s designed to trick you into thinking that Lizzie McGuire is just the kind of girl who rolls out of bed in the morning with a photo-shoot ready barnet.
5. Fringes And Eyebrows Should Not Be The Same Shape
This is a SPECTACULAR creation. The ironed down fringe, the hairband that almost matches the necklace, the carefully manicured eyebrows that arch at just the same spot as aforementioned fringe… This couldn’t be any more noughties if it tried. And it is trying.
6. No. Words.
For the life of us, we can't figure out why Lizzie was dressed like this. But details aside, let's just enjoy this.
7. The Only Time She Looked Normal...
And then there was the time in the movie when Lizzie met her doppleganger and became a pop star for the night. With a stylist on hand to do her hair for her, she just ended up looking, well, really normal.
