The A-List Has Just Declared This To Be The Bag Of The Summer – And We Agree

Among the many raffia bags of summer, only one is worth your attention now – and, of course, it’s from Zimmermann.

When it comes to my sartorial obsessions – and yes, there are many – I’ve always been more drawn to shoes than I have bags. Why this is, I couldn’t tell you – I’m sure there’s a Freudian explanation in it somewhere. This has completely changed, however, since I clocked the new bag from my favourite Australian label – and purveyor of the most beautiful summer clothes in existence – Zimmermann.

A raffia bag has become a summer staple and yet, somehow, Zimmermann has reimagined it in a way that feels entirely fresh. The Goldentime Tote has a sculptural silhouette, tubular handle and the addition of raffia fringing, making it the kind of bag that seamlessly transitions from city streets to sun-drenched shores. I’m not the only one enamoured, either. In fact, I’m in very good company seeing as the likes of Laura Harrier, Olivia Wilde, Emma Roberts, Pom Klementieff and Storm Reid are also all megafans of this glorious handbag.

The Goldentime Tote is available in three distinctive finishes, there’s the aforementioned raffia fringing – truly the stuff of dreams – but also two elegant alternatives: a zebra and a mouliné-style weave, each available in sizes from small to large. All come with a detachable leather strap, so you can wear it cross-body or carry as a top-handle bag, depending on your plans.

Don’t think this tote is for one season only, though. The shape is timeless while, like everything Zimmermann creates, the craftsmanship is unmatched, meaning this is an accessory you’ll want to wear forever. The perfect finishing touch to a summer dress and sandals, it will equally elevate any wedding guest outfit, from colourful suits to floor-sweeping frocks.

In short, I haven’t been able to get this bag off my mind since first sight. And now I know that so many A-listers are fans, too, I’m struggling to produce a worthy excuse as to why I shouldn’t buy it in every colour. Inspired by the ‘surf universe’ and the organic shapes found in any seascape, just looking at this bag transports me to days spent at idyllic coastlines, where warm breezes caress skin and the spirit of summer infiltrates the air. It's not every day a humble handbag can evoke such emotion but then, I’d argue, there’s nothing humble about Zimmermann’s Goldentime Tote.
