Mango is quickly overtaking Zara in the style stakes. There, we said it. And boy, is it good to finally get that off our chest...
But before you judge our bold (and undoubtedly controversial) claim, let us assure you that it wasn’t an easy decision to come to.
Zara delivers ‘it could be designer’ pieces faster than you can say 'fashion', pretty much invented the meaning of elevated basics and gave Thursday the honour of being our favourite day of the week...
But Spanish rival Mango has been steadily climbing the high street charts over the past few months with the help of sell-out arthouse inspired earrings, that checked coat and the circle buckled boots everyone coveted last autumn.
But this season, Mango finally confirmed its status in the style stakes. The launch of its debut sustainable collection, ‘Committed’, introduced us to ruffled poplin dresses, supersized palazzo trousers and the linen bucket bag of dreams.
And just months ago, the Spanish giant welcomed a second line, aptly named ‘Premium’. We’re talking COS-meets-Céline fashion at high street prices. The oversized clutch made its way into our shopping basket without a second thought just moments before the wrap-around blouse in deep purple joined the cult accessory.
And just like that, Mango garnered the title of our most-beloved high street store.
Still not convinced?
We’ve rounded up the ten cult items of the season which prove the store is fast overtaking Zara in the style stakes:
1. The Supersized Clutch
Yes, we couldn’t believe it either. This very clutch is the sartorial genius of Mango and it’s destined to be a sell-out. We’ll be teaming the tangerine-tinged accessory with wooden mules and denim flares, how about you?
2. The ‘It’ Hue
This time, we’re talking yellow. It’s undoubtedly the hue that keeps on giving this season. There’s no greater colour to don when feeling blue and this dress is bound to crack a smile amongst even the most poker-faced of colleagues.
Team the silky number with sorbet pink mules and a bold red lip. Yes, this season we're set to colour-block our way to sartorial success...
3. The Reimagined Crop Top
There are bows aplenty this season (they're almost as popular as flared sleeves). And we cannot wait to get our hands on this linen blouse.
We'll be teaming the fashion piece with high-waisted flares, supersized earrings and wooden mules. Oh, and a tan would be lovely. Who's up for booking a holiday?
4.The Beach-To-Drinks Bag
This oversized bucket bag is the kind of accessory we daydream about. This is the perfect beach-to-city-drinks bag and will serve as a great fashion prop this summer so make sure to invest before it sells out.
5. The Corset Belt
Debuted by the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, the corset belt is continuing to make waves on the fashion scene. Simply layer over a silky white tee or a crisp shirt-dress with supersized sleeves. We're talking the bigger, the better. Finish with ballerina-esque block heels. Sorted.
6. The Jumpsuit
The jumpsuit is the most versatile fashion item you could ever own. Fact. Example, this utilitarian one-piece will achieve major style points when paired with white block heels and Scandi-esque jewellery. Think minimal and you'll succeed.
7. The Spring Mini Dress
Oh, this dress ticks all the major sartorial boxes. We're talking a candyfloss hue paired with supersized sleeves. We'll be teaming it with pillarbox red shoes and a co-ordinating bold lip.
The fashion formula to remember this season? Pink + Red = Guaranteed sartorial success. Trust us.
8. The Blazer
Perhaps one of Mango's coolest co-ords to date. We're desperately seeking this woollen blazer finished with gold buttons. We'll be layering ours over an oversized white shirt and finishing with backless loafers. Preferably, Gucci. But with a suit this great, there's unfortunately no excuse to be fussy...
9. The Pyjama Suit
The pyjama trend is undoubtedly one of our favourite to date. It's the lazy girl's answer to dressing chic within a matter of minutes. We're desperate to invest in this floral two-piece courtesy of Mango, asap. Team with backless loafers (no, not slippers) and a floor-skimming duster jacket. Say hello to an extra ten minutes in bed this season...
10. The Wrap-Around Blouse
Purple is totally underrated if you ask us. This velvet asymmetric wrap shirt is perfect for the tricky transition into summer. We plan on accessorising ours with stacked jewellery and kick-flares. Simply finish with strappy '90s-esque heels. We challenge you to find a greater day-to-night look...
