Just like her mother Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg has the most enviable kind of style, the kind is so natural and effortless that it can't really be emulated. Except, perhaps it can. Because Gainsbourg has just released her very own collection with Zara - and it's full of the kind of staples that she really wears.
Her lifelong love of jeans (and denim in general) is at the centre of the collection, with an oversized denim jacket, a denim shirt, cigarette jeans and tailored straight-leg jeans, all of which are pretty perfect examples of each garment (prices start at £17.99, for a T-shirt, and £49.99 for jeans). Denim became the uniform of her father, the legendary musician Serge Gainsbourg, who passed down the habit to his daughter. She now lives in them, often appearing on the red carpet at film festivals wearing true blues and a cool blazer from Saint Laurent.
'I have a passion for jeans and have always wanted to have a tiny collection of what I wear day-to-day. It is very straightforward and is exactly what I put on,' says Gainsbourg, who has also designed simple sweaters that have a lived-in feel, easy coats, a pair of classic ankle boots, T-shirts, a bralette and a leather backpack. These are clothes that feel instinctive and insouciant, just like their designer. If you've been looking for autumn style personality, this might just be it. If it's good enough for Gainsbourg...
