We’ve all experience that rut. That’s uninspired, listlessness that dwells just slightly above the mind’s eye-catching sight in life’s wing mirror, tugging at Monday’s heels. Though it’s hard to fight the fug, a small change can be the thing to kickstart the acceleration again.
I, for one, fell into one of these moods recently. Why? I blame my wardrobe. Staring into my overstuffed closet I was faced with a myriad of bright, energizing outfits, yet not one was quite right for the office. For Saturday on Sunday, they were fine, for everything in-between they spelt trouble. Benefitting from working a creative field I have a little more wiggle room for most, but that doesn’t mean I want to be that one in the wiggle skirt late for work struggling to get up the stairs to the early morning meeting. Sadly but truly practicality is as much a factor as professionalism when it comes to choosing your Monday-to-Friday looks. That said, I wouldn’t be caught dead in some drab grey-ing skirt suit, even if Bella Hadid is putting that silhouette back on the fashion map again.
Make the commute a touch less stressful with a dress with pockets or a suit that makes that capacious bag look chic. On the topic of that generous hold-all that pulls extra shifts as both gym bag and lunchbox, look for something that has enough personality to liven up the dragging workdays. Look to Caroline de Maigret who has a wowing handbag archive, or take inspiration from Marissa Cox who manages to make sophisticated tailoring look equal amounts cool as achievable…
