A dress code, even one lightly enforced, makes picking an outfit infinitely harder. With the endless possibilities of your wardrobe filtered down, surely it should be simpler to settle on a look. If that was the case, perhaps we’d look forward to Mondays. In reality, an office, even a creative one, comes with guidelines, yet that’s no excuse for relying on the same old uniform of sweater and navy trousers week-in-week-out.
Paris Fashion Weekmight not seem like the natural place to start a workwear Pinterest board, what with all the parties and chauffeur-driven cars. And yet, the street style this season was a quick study in hardworking clothes. Ignoring the show-goers in puff-ball gowns and clobber that’s neither weather nor public transport appropriate reveals a slew of women in outfits that easily adhere to most 9-to-5 dress codes. There’s a suit that’s vibrant and off-set with an unexpected pair of sunflower yellow shoes, there’s a modest snakeskin dress that pops with caramel coloured accessories and a knitted dress that when paired with Grenson boots and a polo neck will appeal to creatives. In other words, there’s something for everyone and every office environment.
