After living in billowy dresses and relaxed silhouettes that pair best with an Aperol and out-of-office replies, I’ve come to a sudden and rather sobering realisation this month: my workwear wardrobe is seriously lacking. While cotton maxis and casual knits were great for the summer, as autumn sets in and we’re dressing for crisp mornings in tailored layers and gearing up for winter’s party circuit, most well-dressed women are returning to polished basics. We don’t mean a stiff corporate uniform, but rather clean lines and muted palettes that speak ‘desk-to-dinner' with ease. The kind that I’ve recently found hiding amongst the new-in picks at Whistles.

If you’ve been dialled into the style set’s secrets, you’ll know that Whistles has long been a fashion insider favourite for effortlessly elegant pieces that are perfect for both everyday polish and party season statements. Leaning into minimalism without ever being boring, it has essentials that work hard – quite literally – and are timeless enough that you’ll be reaching for them on repeat well into spring every year.
Naturally, when I needed a wardrobe recalibration for the incoming chilly weather, I turned to Whistles’ autumn/winter 2025 collection, and it did not disappoint. The collection riffs on classic silhouettes for a refined yet effortless lineup. Take, for example, the Gabriella Waxed Overcoat, which stands somewhere between a chic and practical layer. The relaxed navy coat is detailed with a brown corduroy collar and is the perfect mid-layer to wear on its own for autumn and over chunky knits come November. Elsewhere, the car coat in a timeless neutral is the kind of piece that easily transcends trend cycles.

There’s also plenty of knitwear on offer. A green V-neck cardigan that’ll layer over trousers and satin skirts alike is a brilliant standout, while a chic striped crewneck toes the line between polished grown-up at the office and preppy style icon on the weekend. The dresses and skirts – in autumnal grey taupe, and blush shades – range from flowing midis and preppy pleats to structured shift silhouettes and leather minis. Amongst pared-back staples and heritage patterns such as herringbone and checks, you’ll find plenty of denim heroes, including barrel leg jeans and indigo wash dresses for a casual flair. Rounding out the roster are the accessories – a burgundy tote, a satin mule, an unlined trainer – all finished in sleek suede and patent leather.

From sharp blazers perfect for client meetings to pleated skirts that’ll take you from strategy meetings to spritzes at 6 pm with ease, Whistles has us spoilt for choice this autumn/winter. If you, like me, are after tailored pieces that work hard without looking like you’re trying, trust me, this is the only shopping destination you need. What’s more, unlike most brands that have sales on summer picks, Whistles is currently offering 20% off across the site, so you don’t have to wait to pick up the new-season's hottest pieces.
