Commuting To Work And Want To Wear Your Duvet? Don’t Worry, Fashion Fully Endorses That Now

From quilted scarves to puffer jackets, actual duvet dressing is a huge trend for this season. Which is excellent news for miserable mornings, says Sophie Henderson

Quilted Dressing trend

As far as seasons go, the first couple of months of the year are possibly the most uncomfortable time to tackle the battleground that is the daily commute. From the discomfort of not wearing enough layers as you stand shivering on the station platform, to the sweat-dripping squish on board the train, it really begs the question: how can the daily commute be tackled in ultimate comfort? Well, thanks to fashion, that's not the impossible task it may sound.

The catwalk has taken cosy to another level. Yes, there are the usual fuzzy knits, shearling coats and hard-wearing boots, but if you're a commuter on a quest for ultimate comfort (or, indeed, just someone who doesn't want to be entirely uncomfortable as soon as you leave your house), read on.

Although puffer jackets are by no means new on the catwalk, this season there's a myriad of extra-inflated styles that are almost a literal take on duvet dressing. Look to Ganni's oversized quilted shell coat, for example. In green khaki, it’s like the most fashionable (and portable) duvet you've ever seen. Style Tip; Go oversized, it’s also a great way to keep fellow commuters at a distance.

Next, over to Lauren Moonigan's slipper / clog hybrids that blur the line between indoor-outdoor dressing. There’s no reason why the slipper's comfort should only be something you enjoy in the house. The Row’s velvet version is also the perfect style to take to a party.

Not even your handbag can escape this functional trend. Don't believe me? Just look at the wealth of padded styles on offer. It’s the perfect piece to double up as a pillow for 40 winks on a tray table, after all. Maison Margiela’s Glam Slam really is the pinnacle.

Also worth a try is the padded scarf – a great alternative to carrying a flight pillow. When nestled around your neck, you can count on comfort and ultimate warmth. It will look excellent paired with a simple trench coat.

Last but certainly not least, Gucci’s pillow-toting backpack stole the show during the spring/summer 20 catwalk proving that this trend has legs for next season, too. If you can’t wait until then, we would recommend snapping up a harness and pairing it with a memory foam pillow – comfort guaranteed.
