When you’re adhering only to your own dress code, your wardrobe can feel like an endless Narnia of possibilities. When you’re getting dressed in a sleepy haze every day during the week, all while considering what can or can’t be worn in the workplace, things don’t feel quite so exciting. It’s enough to make you yearn for the days of school uniform, when you may have been forced into a bottle green, itchy ensemble but at least you didn’t agonise over what on earth to put on each morning.

Some people are great at workwear. Some people gravitate towards smart, classic pieces that look appropriate and elegant all at the same time. It’s effortless for those people. For others, not so much. You might think that the looser the dress code, the fewer problems you’d have getting dressed. But this isn’t always the case. Wherever your place of work, whatever your job, trying to come up with new ideas for an everyday wardrobe is boring, frustrating and too much of a faff.

Rejoice, then, for Paris Fashion Week. Not the most obvious of sources for workwear solutions, granted, but it delivered them all the same. Or rather, the show-goers did. On the streets of the French capital, between the shows, we saw all manner of canny style tricks exhibited by some of the most stylish. And what struck us most was the fact that these tricks translate effortlessly into our own wardrobes, making for a more exciting twist on our workwear.

From the new way to layer and pops of animal print to trainers with tailoring and the new smart shoes, these are the best styling tricks of PFW, soon to be seen on all your (most stylish) colleagues.
