19 Items From M&S New-In That Are So Good, They’ll Be Out Of Stock By The End Of July

M&S is back, and Grazia's fashion commerce writer heads into store to try the best new-in pieces.

M&S picks hero gemma

I've got the summer wardrobe refresh itch. You're probably familiar with the one - it kicks in the moment the temperatures start to get into the twenties (we're Brits after all) and you realise that anything that isn't breathable, breezy or linen isn't going to cut it anymore. Your favourite pair of jeans starts to feel heavy, and that once-beloved blazer has been banished to the back of the wardrobe for yet another season. It's almost as if the season itself is nudging us to swap out all the cosy layers for something far lighter. Add to that floaty midi dresses and crisp tank tops, and you essentially have the latest collection that's landed in store by Marks & Spencer.

As a fashion writer, I spend the majority of my time looking at clothes, making it all the more exciting when a new collection and/or season arrives. And, while I love a little online browse, nothing beats seeing clothes in real life, trying things on to find the right fit or spotting things that I might have otherwise scrolled past. It’s key to look for items you know will work with things you already have in your wardrobe, and the Pure Cotton Midaxi Drop Waist Tiered Dress is precisely one of those gems. Now we're finally in acceptable weather to wear a midi dress, you best believe I'm making the most of it, and M&S has a great selection of dresses that take the stress out of deciding what to wear in the morning.

Another standout from the new-in page? M&S' Textured Pleated Skirt in a delectable cream that borders butter yellow. For £45, the skirt feels thick, but not so thick that you'll boil on the tube, and the pleated lining is sheer, but most definitely not see-through. I paired it with a tank top I'd never seen in M&S before (which is unfortunately now sold out) - the Secret Support Bra Vest, which comes with a built-in bra that rivals Uniqlo's popular bra tanks.

A good one to have in your warm-weather-workwear wardrobe, this skirt was honestly so flattering and didn't swamp me at all (or look frumpy!) It has a comfortable elasticated waistband as well as a lightweight textured fabric. Style with ballet flats or kitten heels.

This summer, my outfit inspiration is based around channelling that effortless I-spend-summers-by-the-coast chic, say the kind of thing you'd see on The Summer I Turned Pretty or Outer Banks. So, when I saw M&S' Cotton Ombre Cropped Sweatshirt in a bright yellow, I knew it would be right up my street. The sweatshirt is boxy enough to be thrown over a bikini, or worn with chunky jewellery and a pair of Denim Bermuda Shorts, also from M&S.

If you're looking for a perfect pair of Bermuda shorts, look no further. These hit the perfect length - just above the knee - and come in a variety of different denim washes, as well as a classic indigo.

When the evenings get slightly cooler and you find yourself needing a light layer, take this sweatshirt for those moments. The length is slightly cropped, and the print adds a bold twist to the look. Remember to size up by one size for a more oversized look.

I decided to put my fashion writer credentials to the test by searching through hundreds of M&S items to pick out the best pieces the brand has to offer - naturally, I also had to try everything on, too. Keep scrolling for a curated dossier of my absolute favourite pieces, and items I'd (rather happily) break my budget for.

Shop: More To Buy From M&S This Month

A vest is a non-negotiable wardrobe staple for the summer months, where even a t-shirt won't beat the heat. This one is made with knitted detailing, perfect for a welcome breeze.

A puff-sleeve top is as whimsical as it gets, but add floral detailing and you've got yourself a DÔEN-inspired blouse without the expensive price tag.

Floral corsage detailing on shoes is especially trendy right now, so of course, M&S came out with its own iteration for the summer.

This cardigan comes in a trendy lime green print but also features adorable and chic pearl detailing that looks good on everyone.

Linen is, without a doubt, a must for summer. But this glorious linen and crochet halter top? Even more so. The top features a flattering tie halter neck, as well as delicate cutwork detailing at the front. Wear to a festival paired with denim shorts and wellies.

Denim for summer sometimes isn't the most comfortable option, but luckily, this pair of M&S jeans is made with added stretch and a zip fastening. With a voluminous leg that's exaggerated by cleverly placed darts and a mid-rise waist, wear with a white t-shirt and flip flops.

Everyone needs a throw-on thin cardigan in their summer wardrobe, and if you haven't already got one, now's the chance to invest in a pointelle ecru number. The cardigan can also be worn on its own or as part of a matching set with shorts or a vest.

Gingham has been the print we're smitten with this spring/summer, so it's no surprise to see M&S jumping on the trend too. An ideal top for picnics in the park or daytime drinks, this gingham number features a square neckline and cap sleeves.

If you've got weddings galore this summer and are getting to the point where you really don't want to wear heels again, a pair of mules is an excellent alternative. Guaranteed to be comfier than a stiletto, these M&S mules feature a woven design, block heel and chunky platform sole.

Another great dress from M&S, and this one features a fitted bodice and V-neckline, as well as a midaxi-length and floaty skirt. Dress up with a pair of kitten heels and gold bangles, or dress down with ballet flats and a raffia tote bag.

This shacket is available in red denim and classic blue denim, although the blue denim is already sold out, setting the precedent for how likely the red iteration is to stay in stock. A shacket is perfect for throwing on over any summer outfit as it's not too thick, and it'll add a pop of colour too.

M&S' longer version of its palazzo trousers sold out within just one day, and now the brand has released a similar version, except this one is slightly cropped. Available in three versatile colours: white, navy and black, the trousers have a wide leg and breezy feel.

If you're looking at your summer calendar and you're realising you have more events on your roster than you initially thought, this is the perfect dress for garden parties, weddings, black-tie dinners (the list could go on). The subtle polka dot print also means it's on-trend as it's one of the biggest summer crazes right now.

A similar design to the viral Nobody's Child number that took social media by storm last year, the M&S iteration has a similar Bardot bandeau neckline and, of course, polka dot print. The dress also features a dropped waist that cinches in and a comfortable ruched top. I would advise sizing up, however, as it does come up on the small side - I went with a size 12.

I find the key to actually wearing shorts in the summer is to invest in a super comfortable pair. Like these, for example, which are still so chic, with their green striped pattern. To dress up, add ballet flats, a white t-shirt and an oversized blazer.

If you're heading to a festival this summer, you're going to want to invest in this utility gilet now. Available in two different colours, light natural and black, pair the whiter shade with beige trousers, suede boots and a statement crossbody, and the darker colour with a lace midi skirt and biker boots.
