I've got the wardrobe refresh itch. There's something about the arrival of spring - the longer days and the promise of sunshine - that calls for a wardrobe refresh, no matter how small. If you're anything like me, the moment you first see a degree in double digits on the weather app, you start reassessing the spring pieces you used to wear last year. That trusty trench coat that's been your go-to for years suddenly looks more tired than it did before, and those heavy knits? They're just not cutting it now the sun is here. It's as if the season itself is nudging us to swap out the winter-worn layers for something lighter, breezier. Add to that floaty midi dresses and crisp tank tops and you essentially have the latest collection that's landed in store by Marks & Spencer.

The denim dress

If you're looking to lean into the boho trend this summer, this denim dress is the perfect excuse to do so. With a waisted silhouette that cinches all the way down and long cuffed raglan sleeves, layer with an embroidered vest and add a pair of suede cowboy boots to enhance the look - this was one of my favourite dresses I tried on in M&S.

As a fashion writer, I spend the majority of my time looking at clothes, making it all the more exciting when a new collection and/or season arrives. And, while I love a little online browse, nothing beats seeing clothes in real life, trying things on to find the right fit or spotting things that I might have otherwise scrolled past. It’s key to look for items you know will work with things you already have in your wardrobe, and the Linen Blend Waistcoat is precisely one of those versatile gems. With its wrap front, single button fastening and smart collar, this is a piece that immediately elevates any outfit, but not in a way that feels overpowering or difficult to style with much else.

Super comfortable and equally as smart, M&S' Linen Blend Waistcoat is one of those pieces that will easily go with most things you already own. Style over the top of a plain white t-shirt and jeans for a look that's office-ready, or wear on its own paired with leather trousers for an evening out.

From the sell-out drawstring jeans to those easy-to-weardresses that come to the rescue when you have no idea what to put on in the morning, you can always rely on M&S. This month, I decided to put my fashion writer credentials to the test by searching through hundreds of M&S items to pick out the best pieces the brand has to offer - naturally, I also had to try everything on, too (my camera roll is now 90% M&S).

Keep scrolling for a curated dossier of my absolute favourite pieces, and items I'd (rather happily) break my budget for.

The linen trousers

These M&S linen trousers are so good that last summer, they spent more time out of stock than in - so it's a good idea to secure a pair early. Available in over 10 different colours (including a bright red and Scandi-inspired blue stripe), these trousers are just as comfortable (and cooling) as they promise.

The leopard mini

I love this leopard dress, purely for the fact it's not bodycon which means it's just so easy to throw on and not worry about. A similar design to the styles of Ganni, the dress is finished with a tie front and three-quarter puff sleeves.

The red top

As we're getting into warmer temperatures I'm sure you'll need no encouragement to ditch the darker colours and opt for something more colourful. This red bubble-hemmed top stood out not only thanks to its bright hue, but also its puff sleeves and how comfortable it was.

The Bubble Hem Puff Sleeve Top can also be paired with the matching skirt, which is, as expected, equally as bright (although it does come in white too).

Another great on-trend and bubble-hemmed piece is this monochrome dress. Available in three different lengths (a blessing for anyone like myself who doesn't necessarily fit into the regular length), the dress is made from cool cotton and is finished with details like a wide crew neckline, sleeveless bodice and low back.

A similar design to that viral Nobody's Child number that took social media by storm last year, the M&S iteration has a similar bardot bandeau neckline and of course, polka dot print. The dress also features a dropped waist that does cinch you in and a comfortable ruched top. I would advise sizing up, however, as it does come up on the small side - I went with a size 12.

The classic denim jacket is a staple, but if you're looking for one that's slightly different, and feels more elevated too, then look no further. This one from M&S is already selling out (a great sign it's an excellent piece) and is finished with chic details like gold buttons down the front and four pockets.

When the brand first released its Pleated Palazzo Trousers in light beige only a couple of weeks back, they almost immediately sold out. Now, the same trousers are back not in one, but two different versatile colours - black and ivory. I'd say snap these up as fast as you can as they will likely sell out in record time.

The first thing that caught my eye this week was this absolutely stunning denim midi dress that's complete with a Ganni-esque tie detail front. Another great detail that I need to talk about is the puff sleeves, perfect for injecting a slightly feminine edge into any outfit. Style with suede cowboy boots or with chunky sandals.

Although it might be slightly too early for short-weather, I find the key to actually wearing shorts in the summer is to invest in a super comfortable pair. Like these, for example, which are still so chic, with its green striped pattern. To dress up, add ballet flats, a white t-shirt and an oversized blazer.

The perfect pair of white jeans is surprisingly hard to find, some are too baggy, others are too tight, and others aren't even white, they're more ecru or ivory. But, M&S have created the ultimate pair of soft white jeans, with a modern slim fit (that's not too skinny), zip fastening and cotton-rich material.

Just like your winter wardrobe is made up of staples like a good quality knit and puffer coat, your summer wardrobe needs to be made up of staples like a tank top and linen trousers. This racer vest is a favourite, because of its contrasting detailing and stretchy fit.

Perfect for throwing on over a bikini after a long day soaking up the sun on the beach, this mini skater dress has an all-over textured stripe pattern that's sure to make any outfit look instantly more put together. Style with a colourful pair of Adidas trainers or flip flops.

Spring often requires a lot of jacket shedding. The bigger layers subside for trench coats and bomber jackets, and this is the perfect example of a lightweight jacket that'll still make you warm, without making you too hot. It's finished with chic details like a zip down the middle and gathered back hem.

Lacy skirts are the latest thing fashion people are being spotted in, so why not hop on the trend early with the M&S iteration? This style has a maxi length and gently tiered design. The best part, however? The smooth-part lining that means you won't end up flashing anyone and the elasticated waist.

Designed in this gorgeous middling shade of butter yellow and ivory, M&S' Crinkle Textured Collared Shirt is everything you'd want from a spring-ready shirt. Plus, its crinkle effect means you can get away with not ironing it - a win win if you ask me.

If you're heading to a festival this summer, you're going to want to invest in this utility gilet now. Available in two different colours, light natural and black, pair the whiter shade with beige trousers, suede boots and a statement crossbody, and the darker colour with a lace midi skirt and biker boots.

Triangle neck scarves are an easy trend to get involved with, that's if of course you haven't already. M&S have this stunning red paisley design, which you can style over any neutral or black outfit, tied loosely around your neck. Trust me, it will elevate any outfit.

I've chosen this blue floral dress as one of the best things in M&S right now not only due to its striking resemblance to lots of Rixo styles, but also because of its V-neckline and feminine lace detailing. Style with suede cowboy boots and gold accessories.

Finally, the sun looks like it's shining and you can get that suede out without fear of it getting rained on. This jacket is cut in a regular fit (so if you prefer things oversized, make sure to size up), and is finished with a collared neckline and chic gathering at the shoulders.

I have a feeling these Bevelled Oval Sunglasses are going to fly off the shelves. The design of the sunglasses' arm is rippled, making an almost wave-like silhouette that honestly, I'm obsessed with. Plus, the sunglasses are available in three different colours, a chic tortoiseshell, statement dusky pink and cool green.

To go perfectly with the butter yellow blazer I picked out earlier, this bag is made out of the softest faux leather and is the most practical size (which I can attest to, as I actually own the bag myself). With a detachable chain strap, either wear as a shoulder bag, or remove the strap and style as a clutch.

If you prefer to lean into lighter jeans now that the weather is getting slightly warmer, M&S have a pair that toe the line between dark beige and cream. Design wise, these are a Mom fit so are somewhere between a wide-leg and skinny, and feature added stretch, five pockets and a zip fly.

M&S' horseshoe jeans (another name for what is essentially the same style) have already seen huge success. Now, the brand has released a cotton pair of trousers with the barrel-leg shape. I think these trousers are super flattering and the kind of piece you'd be able to get lots of wear out of - whether paired with a chunky turtleneck or t-shirt.

Suede skirts might've come from Miuccia Prada, but M&S is very much leading the way as the trend trickles down to the high street. This one has a flattering A-line shape, discreet zip fastening, stretchy fabric and of course, that midaxi-length hem.
