If 2018 could be summed up in the shape of one single skirt, surely it would be that silk slip that every Instagrammer worth their influence has been wearing. Topshop is now doing one-better than stocking this must-have midi skirt, as they’ve released a collection of satin slip dress inspired by the cult item.
With Christmas just days away our to-do list is already out of control, which is why we couldn’t be happier that Topshop has ticked ‘find New Year’s Eve dress’ off our agenda. The simple slip dress is one of those holy-grail items that exists in every well-dressed woman’s wardrobe. Leandra Medine, Kate Moss, yes, you name it. Finding one that’s slinky but doesn’t over-caress our curves, that’s structured but not boxy seemed impossible. But, this Topshop piece is doing all that and not blowing the budget.
Priced at £35, these plain satin slips barely need justifying. Designed with crisscross straps, a cowl back and a mid-thigh slit, they could easily be worn as is. Just add heels. And a micro tote bag, of course.
But, post-New Year’s Eve, when the hangover has finally gone, we’d happily wear them as we do with midi-skirt it was inspired by. Meaning, with hiking boots and a mohair jumper, or with a plain polo neck and heels.
We particularly like it in tiger print (ideal for showing our wild side), but if you’re purist the plain sheaths in gold, saffron, dusky pink and teal are equally appealing.
Act fast though. If the extreme popularity of Realisation Par's original slinky midi skirt is anything to go by, this Topshop dress won't be in stock for very long.
