Why I Plan On Wearing A Swim Skirt This Summer

You've finally booked a beach break (yay). Now you have to a) find and b) try on all your bikinis (not so yay). I haven't been on a hot holiday for, well, a long time, which means the thought of being basically naked outside the confines of my bathroom walls both thrills and terrifies me. While bracing myself for the vast amounts of prep that go into making a public appearance without much clothing, I can't go back to the itsy-bitsy bikinis of my twenties. Too stringy, too brief, I want to graduate to the kind of swimwear that prioritises comfort while not sacrificing on cool-factor.

And I've found the answer. For summer 2023, I want a swim skirt. This is literally what it says on the tin - a skirt that you can wear in water - and provides much more coverage than your average pair of bottoms, while also looking chic AF. On Love Island 2022, Tasha Ghouri started a micro trend for three-piece bikini sets - comprising of a bikini and a matching sarong-style skirt - and the appeal is obvious when you think about it. You don't have to worry about a packing a coordinating cover-up in your basket bag for one thing. You can also start off by wearing the swim skirt and, after a few Aperols, do a 'big reveal'.

SKIMS version of the swim skirt is so cool that you actually won't want to take it off. A micro mini, with a ruched tie up the middle, it's the definition of #holidaygoals. If you're worried about sun exposure, you can also buy the matching long-sleeved bikini top - yes, it's A Thing - which stretches from mid-bicep to just over your wrist. I wouldn't go so far as calling either 'modest' because there's still skin on show but, compared to your average bikini, especially some of the triangle bottoms that have the same surface area as a tortilla chip, they leave plenty to the imagination.
