If you’re bored of pussy-bows, and never fell in love with the off-the-shoulder blouse, there’s a new top in town that has your name on it. Call it the Little Women after-effect, but the smock is set to be everywhere this spring.
As a top, the smock is largely underrated. It's the perfect throw-on-and-go piece, after all. Pairing yours with jeans and ballet pumps will spell smart-casual, while throwing on blazer and strapping on barely-there sandals will dial things up a notch for nighttime. (Note: its shirred fabric might look clingy but, rest assured, it hugs in all the right places and might just convince fans of the tent top to try something more form-fitting.)
Arket’s minimalist version is perfectly pared-back and proves, once and for all, that smocks don’t have to be hippy-dippy. Having said that, DÔEN's Amoret smock, with pastel stitching around the neck and sweetly puffed cuffs, has a prairie vibe that feels pleasingly bucolic.
See our edit below, where you’ll find everything from vintage smock tops from the Sixties, to modern all-black options on the high street.
Happy smock-shopping!
