What do you wear to bed? Sorry to be so abrupt – but it seems that the general consensus is either tracksuit bottoms and ex-boyfriend’s old t-shirt (classic/comfy/he’s never asked for it back). Or an XXL nightshirt you’ve had since you were 15. And let's not forget the summer standard – nada.
Then there is the smaller group of sleeping fashionistas…let’s call them the Olivia Pope’s of this world. Power dressing working its way seamlessly into their sleepwear drawers. An array of elegant jammies. We envy you.
The truth is though - apart from the 25th December - chances are matchy-matchy PJs are put aside for most of the year. And definitely not to be donned on a night out. Well, that was until we saw everyone from Victoria Beckham and street style stars stepping out in luxe sleepwear - and getting this look so right.
From silky 1920s style pyjama suits that ooze Hollywood glam to easy, retro inspired sets – it’s never been cooler to get in with the PJ pack this party season.
So we caught up with designer Olivia Von Halle, master of luxe nightwear, to give Grazia the low-down on how to look more RTW than Ready For Bed…
Why do you think people are wearing their PJs as daywear more now?
Kate Moss is regularly spotted in our pyjamas, whilst Rihanna, Gigi Hadid and Jourdan Dunn are all fans of the brand. After a decade of revealing outfits we are starting to enjoy the appeal of being more covered up - the success of designers such as Alessandra Rich are testament to that. Pyjamas are covered up so feel very modern and relevant right now - but they have a wonderful decadent air about them. When Coco Chanel started the trend by wearing her lover's pyjamas in the twenties it was incredibly rebellious and I think some of that excitement remains. You feel like you are breaking the rules!
**What’s the key rules to nailing the look? **
Attitude is everything. For eveningwear dig out your grandmother’s jewels, slick back your hair and pair with some towering Charlotte Olympia heels for a rebellious and decadent take on cocktail dressing. And unless you’re off to the beach or having breakfast by your pool in the south of France then your pyjamas must be silk.
Do you always need to wear heels?
Not necessarily - for day I love teaming silk pyjamas with Stan Smiths. At night I love wearing our iconic Lila Nika black and white stripped pyjamas with a pair of Sanayi 313 faux fur lined slippers for a more relaxed evening look.
**Any PJ trends for AW16 we should look out for? **
Prints are becoming larger scale and more fun - our Lila Nasra pyjama is covered in snakes and has been incredibly popular this season.
Here's our pick of the hottest PJs you can wear any time of the day...
