So summer has finally arrived and it's time to refresh the ol' wardrobe. Undoubtedly the best summer cupboard mixes casual-wear with selected standout pieces that work this season's trends – to set one apart at Glastonbury, and Ibiza, and, you know, just in general.
River Island is where to head for such seasonal range as they stock numerous options from both ends of the spectrum.
Loud colours were big on the SS16 catwalks, and if you're heading to the heat there's no better place for them. I'd pack the orange trapeze cami and the limited edition red runner print shorts; they're everyday pieces elevated by their sunshine colours and to be honest, just looking at them makes me happy.
The Seventies trend has seen it through the winter and emerged again this summer – and what a relief that is, because I wouldn't want to go to a festival without fringing. River Island's blue print dress boasts some pretty mega manifestations of it, but to be honest, it was the vibrant zigzags that caught my eye. This dress works great with flats and wellies too – in fact, I'd almost prefer to wear it with the latter.
For smart occasions, I instinctively turn to darker colours. I love a jumpsuit, especially with a v-neck as it flatters a larger bust, and River Island delivers here too. To throw on over it – or 'elegantly place', I should say – this season I'm thinking: a kimono. It's not a bomber, I know, but it's lightweight and fits neatly into an over-sized holdall; and when one is rushing from work to, say, Wimbledon (I can dream...) the lack of extra baggage is hugely appreciated.
Finally, no summer wardrobe would be complete without swimwear, and new for me this year is the all-in-one. What's not to love about the River Island bandeau swimsuit (I've asked myself many times)? With the world's biggest sun hat, I couldn't want for more on the beach.
