In January, Selfridges will turn their annual New Year talent showcase on its head. Usually dubbed 'Bright Young Things', the London department store runs a window and instore initiative that promotes, celebrates and rejoices in the young and upcoming talent of the fashion world. 2015 though, will pave the way for 'Bright Old Things', giving a platform to 14 fashion creatives aged late-40s to mid-80s, the only condition being that their chosen profession was a recent move.
Entrepeneurs from art, music and fashion have been selected by a Selfridges panel and will be honoured one-by-one by each of the store's window scenes. Each personality (painter and writer Molly Parkin, punk musician Bruno Wizard and fashion retailer Nick Wooster are the first to be named) will also be photographed in their studios and homes by the brilliant interiors-inspired portrait photographer Todd Selby. The initiative celebrates renewal, insisting that 'it's never to late to try something new' - which will chime perfectly with everyone's new year's resolutions. “One of the things we pride ourselves on is telling great stories,” said Linda Hewson, Selfridges’ creative director to WWD. “How better to start the year than by celebrating of 14 of them? These people can teach us all a thing or two about growing old properly."
In such uplifting spirits, we've compiled a gallery of the savviest senior dressers out there...
