If you have been anywhere near a TV, Twitter or Facebook today you will know that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have welcomed a baby princess.
Kate went into labour at 6am this morning, arriving at the Lindo wing by car with her husband William. She then delivered a baby girl a couple of hours later at 8.34 am. This news was announced to the press via email and shared on the @KensingtonRoyal Twitter account just after 11am.
This is a modern way of announcing the birth of the princess, but in keeping with tradition the easel was placed outside of Buckingham Palace by two footman at 12.30pm.
The framed notice from the palace confirmed that the "Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter," arriving at 8.34am and weighing 8lbs, 3oz.
