The New Rodarte & Other Stories Collab Is Here!

Kate and Laura mMulleavy are the sisters behind Rodarte, the quirky-cult LA-based designer label that is one of the highlights of New York Fashion Week.

& Other Stories is the high-street brand serving grown-up fashion at affordable prices. Together, they have collaborated on a collection that we think you’ll want to buy – which is why we’ve photographed every single piece.

Laura Mulleavy is on the phone from Los Angeles.‘The greatest thing about working with Kate [her sister] and everyone at Stories – all women with really strong points of view – was being able to take what we do at Rodarte and retune that

into a collection of really be-oodiful everyday clothes.’

That meant keeping the fab essence of their show collections – full of feminine cool and special, intensely hand-crafted clothes (hence Rodarte’s eye-watering price tags) and pouring all that into, as Laura puts it ‘A kinda perfect everyday LA wardrobe that could go anywhere in the world.’

The sisters’ aesthetic is as intrinsically linked to Los Angeles, their ‘home and source of endless inspiration’ – from the LA night sky (all those twinkling fabrics) to the Death Valley mountain ranges, the desert and sea – as the clothes (check the colour palette).

So this is the democratised version of Rodarte: mass-produced, instant, urgent, buy-me-now fashion, about as far away from the one-off gowns and show collections that you’ve seen on their friends and loyal fans – Elle Fanning, Gia Coppola and Kirsten Dunst (with whom they have just made their first feature film) – as it is possible to get. According to Laura, those fans can’t wait to wear this collection, either – especially the sequin dress, lurex knitwear and those boots! ‘Everyone has a different body type and suits different colours, so it needed to be a collection that every woman could enjoy,’ she adds.

Hooray for the Mulleavys! And hooray for us, too.
