It’s been a troubling year for the high street, but one brand that’s rallied since shops reopened is Primark. On 4 June, the first day the high street flung open its doors after months of closures due to coronavirus, there was a queue of earlybirds at 8.15am outside the brand’s Oxford Street store. And, clearly, customer appetite hasn’t waned since. According to Associated British Foods, the food and retail group that owns Primark, sales since lockdown measures were eased are on target to hit £2 billion by the end of this year. Although this sounds astronomical, it’s actually 12% down on sales last year. Still, it proves that people are returning to shops. And now for the interesting part...What are people actually buying from Primark?
According to the business, its top sellers are its loungewear sets, pyjamas, tees and kidswear collaboration with Stacey Solomon. Basically, everything we’ve been wearing and rewearing during lockdown. Go figure.
For autumn, its cardigan range is particularly appealing, especially this elongated grey wrap style and this just-on-the-right-side-of-prim button-down. Its satin pyjama top and bottoms will also make bedtimes that little bit more luxurious as the temperatures drop.
