Most summer trends are fairly predictable. White dresses, floral prints, off-shoulder necklines – you know the drill. Every so often, fashion throws a curveball, which hits us straight between the eyes. Thankfully, the latest curveball is soft, sheer and almost irresistibly pretty. Usually reserved for wedding dresses, organza can currently be seen in multiple locations. Miu Miu, Zara (its presence is very strong in Zara) and, of course, on Instagram.
Last month, in fact, Zara's organza blouses were quite literally the talk of the town, selling out rapidly thanks to a wealth of articles and Instagram posts dedicated to extolling their virtues. But the high street brand has more than just blouses – everything from organza trench coats to skirts have already sold out, but there are more sheer pieces arriving all the time.
Away from Zara, there's a number of pretty pieces that just go to show how underrated this fabric has been for so long. Ganni's tiered dress, for example, or Miu Miu's baby pink shirt.
Then, there's Boden's midi skirt, Rejina Pyo's wonderful blazer and Maje's sugary shirt dress. The best way to wear organza is with a mix of textures. Zara's blouses, for example, look excellent with denim, tucked in and paired with flat sandals. It's also a fabric that proves to be versatile in terms of styling – Miu Miu's shirt could be worn buttoned up over a cami, or open as a jacket over a sun dress.
Organza for summer? It's genuinely groundbreaking.
