Alexa Chung has revealed she's not a fan of new fashion term 'normcore' - even though she likes the style. The word, coined by forecasting agencies, refers to the trend of 'embracing sameness', rather than striving for 'difference'.
It's been used in recent months to define the effortlessly cool 'anti-fashion' look sported by street style regulars. Your typical normcore outfit: no flashy labels or glam statement pieces, instead a mix of comfy knits, jeans and trainers in a navy and monochrome colour palette.
Sound familiar? Yup, it's an off-duty look Alexa and loads of hip girls on the London fashion scene have sported for years. And, while the style icon's spearheaded many fashion crazes, from Breton stripe T-shirts to spotty tights and brogues, it seems she and her friends don't want to be the faces of normcore.

Talking to Fashionista, Alexa said her pals aren't happy that what they believed was their individual style is getting called a trend and being sold to other people as a hip new thing. She described the term as 'the most offensive thing' and explained that it's 'weird' that their 'unique vibe' has been given a name.
'I am into it,' she says. 'But I didn't recognise it as a category of dressing, it's just how people dress, but I know friends of mine that were included in the first article who were quite outraged by that. It's weird when you're just existing and people outside it gather you up and take away any unique vibe you thought you had. They're like, 'It's a trend' and you're like, 'What? No, I just exist'.'
