How To Shop Like A New Yorker In Time For New York Fashion Week

Even if you’re not travelling across the pond for New York Fashion Week, it pays to know how to shop like the natives. Where Brits are eclectic and experimental, Manhattanites tend to stick to tried-and-tested basics, worshipping at the altar of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s The Row, one of the hottest tickets on the show calendar, and Gabriela Hearst.

For everyday, however, we have our very own woman in the field. Sienna Miller has finessed her style to suit her adopted city, with a wardrobe of oversized coats, flat boots, roomy handbags and beanie hats. The above beige number is by Smythe, a Canadian brand whose outerwear is worn on repeat by Meghan Markle, and she always keeps her boots functional to battle those bleak New York winters.

Sienna’s go-to is shearling-covered snow boots, but Chloë Sevigny favours a lace-up style with her ruffle-hemmed trousers. Coach’s Chain Bootie has a Cuban heel and the kind of criss-cross laces you’re looking for.

Zoë Kravitz - also partial to a floor-sweeping coat, this time in camel suede - proves that New Yorkers do wear colour. Her highlighter-bright pair of trousers, from Sies Marjan, are head-turningly brilliant, but note how she pared them back with a white tank, black bowling shirt and simple pumps.
