And we're off! With a flurry of models frantically downing green juices, hairstylists everywhere getting out their tongs and the final tweaks being made to dresses, New York Fashion Week is well underway. Our eagle eyed beauty editor has been backstage and FROW at all the best shows to bring you the hottest trends first, and there's one that's got our pulses racing already - frosted lips.
Spotted at Altuzarra, Alexander Wang and Diane Von Furstenburg, the new pout is neither hyper-glossy or totally matte. It's a blend of just-bitten pinkness with a wintery, soft edge to give the perfect transitional lip. Think a little concealer on the lips, blurred around the edge of the lipline, followed by a light slick of gloss to give a misty, frosted look. Paired at Diane Von Furstenburg with a smokey eye, it looked elegant and sophisticated. With glossy lids and wet-look hair at Alexander Wang, it was edgy and unfussy.
It’s a lighter, softer pink than rose; think more of a peony colour and you’re close. Far from being girly, the lack of a sheen and the slightly blurred edges keep it fashion-forward and with a pinch of attitude. We love NARS Lip Gloss in Guyana, £18.00, for its pearlescent shine, or Bobbi Brown’s Brightening Lip Gloss, £18.50, over a bitten or stained lip for a frosty finish. Or, blend a little lipstick with a matte balm on the back of your hand and dab over your lips for a slightly less high-impact finish. Hey presto! You’re SO next season.
