When you think about it, the amount of capital New Year's Eve decisions require from your brain far outweighs the likelihood of enjoyment. Perhaps, the balance got skewed at around the same time Group Chats got invented. Now one evening's plan requires a battalion of people and several hundred message dings to sort out. There is one element, however, we can decide by ourselves...our outfit. And there is only one obvious and adult answer to what to wear onNew Year's Eve: a long-sleeved dress.
Let your friends fret about which restaurant to book and whose house is least likely to be damaged if a party were to take place while you hunt out the perfect long-sleeved party dress. Because, as the song famously goes, 'Baby, it's cold outside' and any other frock options aren't just ludicrously impractical but should be immediately ruled out, unless, of course, you fancy wearing your coat all night.
If you find yourself at a bar and all your friends decide to have a quick, sneaky fag, do you want to be the shivering drunk woman outside or the one in the long-queue for the cloakroom? If you find yourself perched on a hilltop watching fireworks do you want to be thinking more about your goosebumps than the glittering light show up above? NYE may always be a bit of a let-down but what you wear really doesn't have to be. In fact, it can be the making of the night. Naturally, there has never been a better night to wear a sequin-encrusted frock or a pair of ridiculousy jazzy shoes. Got to town on the glitz, just don't wake up the next day with a hangover and a cold.
So without further ado, here is Grazia's favourite long-sleeved New Year's Eve dresses...
