Morgan Freeman has thanked fans for the love and support he has received following the tragic death of his step granddaughter over the weekend.
The legendary actor branded Edina Hines' death as 'senseless' just hours after she was found with multiple chest wounds outside her apartment in New York.
After being found in the early hours of Sunday morning the 33-year-old was taken by an ambulance to Harlem Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Today Lamar Davenport was charged with second degree murder and police have said he was in a relationship with Edina. He was taken into custody at the scene and has had a psychological evaluation at a hospital, according to reports.
Edina was the granddaughter of Morgan's first wife Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. The couple divorced in 1979 and Morgan still refers to her as his granddaughter.
Yesterday Morgan posted a message to his Facebook page. He said: 'I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. -M.'
He also issued a statement, 'The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.'
