With the hashtag #FreeTheKnee gathering daily momentum on social networking sites, the question has arisen as to whether it is OK for men to wear shorts to the office. And unless you work in a creative industry – where men in shorts are embraced and encouraged – it seems to be very much open to debate.
Foremost, it seems unfair and sexist against men, if women are allowed to wear skirts to keep cool, whereas men are required to suffocate their knees in sweltering trousers; in spite of the fact their office might resemble a furnace.
That said, if David Cameron wore shorts to open the first Prime Minister's Questions following Parliament's summer holibobs, might the general consensus be that his legs are still on holiday?
It's a tough one...
Here at Grazia, we are fully behind 'freeing the knee' – though obviously style rules apply. Whilst the SS16 Mens Collections revealed an upcoming trend for very-short-shorts, we'd say a firm 'No' to those in the office.
Fitted shorts, however, that touch the bottom of the thigh (just above the knee), that are plain in colour and unpatterned seem to be pretty safe bet.
But what do you think of men wearing shorts at work? Let us know in the poll below.
