They Might Not Strictly Be ‘Royal Protocol’ But Meghan’s Sticking To Her Trusty LBD’s

Meghan Markle has long been a fan of the little black dress. But when she married Prince Harry in 2018, one would have been forgiven for thinking that her days of turning up to film premieres in black mini dresses were over.

Royal protocol suggests that wearing black should generally be avoided, outside of a funeral setting, or the very occasional evening dress (The Duchess of Cambridge has opted for patterned black gowns on the red carpet in the past) and you can forget the hue entirely for daytime events and weddings.

Despite the fact that her critics will take any opportunity to complain about Meghan, she hasn't bowed to pressure to ditch the LBD continues to shun tradition in favour of the trusty wardrobe staple.

Just last weekend she made a show-stopping appearance at her friend Misha Noonoo’s Rome wedding wearing a sheer black embellished-tulle gown from Valentino’s SS19 collection. The dress, which the Meghan paired with statement earrings and her signature undone up-do, retails at a staggering £8,900.

This isn’t the first time that Meghan has eschewed tradition. She famously sported dark nail polish at The Fashion Awards last year (it is said that The Queen favours subtler tones) and who could forget the £56,000 black Ralph & Russo haute couture gown she wore for her official engagement photos? Quite a departure from the Reiss ‘Nannette’ dress that Kate Middleton wore for hers in 2010.
