This morning it was M&S's turn to hit the showspace at Somerset House, as they gave the fash pack serious coat envy at their Autumn Winter 2014 Best of British collection. This is their third Best of British Collection, with classic shift dresses, wool duffel coats and classic tailoring. Forget the M&S pink coat, we want that ice blue duffel right NOW!
The Best of British Collection is all about, you guessed it, celebrating British talent. As the pieces are lovingly designed in the new M&S Studio in Shoreditch. The 54-piece collection is a modern take on British heritage, with fresh checks, jacquard florals and statement red prints. Sticking to the British theme the collection is made up of red, white and blue (and a touch of caramel), as there are royal blues and rusty reds. It's not just about the coats however, as we also heart those white brogues.
The entire collection is manufactured in Britain, with knitwear from Scotland, outerwear from Manchester and footwear from Northamptonshire. Prices start at £19.50 for a leather cuff to £349 for a wool coat. Start saving those pennies ladies!
M&S style director Belinda Earl said to Grazia Daily at the event: 'These are timeless pieces which you can add to your wardrobe. It's all about beautiful fabrics with pieces like this, as you can't get away with it. Without great fabrics you can't make some of these simple, classic cuts.' Her favourite piece? The blue duffel, natch.
As for the price point she added: 'The dresses are £59, which is a big development for us in making the collection more accessible. It has a premium feel to it, but we wanted it to be accessible.' So do they plan on staging a big London Fashion Week catwalk show? Belinda said: 'We are taking it one step at a time. This is a bit bigger than we did last time - we are doing it in line with consumer demand.'
But that's not all, M&S have some more exciting news, as they have announced that they will become the Lead Partner to the BFC's Positive Fashion initiative. This is a committee which will support and encourage home grown talent in the British Fashion Industry.
