It’s the time of year when the urge suddenly comes over us all to make paper chains, spray fake snow and drape everything with tinsel. To help you create your most stylish Christmas ever, we asked some of our favourite designers to get Christmas DIY-ing, and create something that can definitely be tried at home.

DOLCE & GABANNA’S CHRISTMAS ANGEL

Moulting tinsel and seen-better-days baubles; if you’ve dusted off your box of decorations and found it distinctly lacking in Christmas sparkle, then we have just what you need – your very own high-fashion angel! This decorative little lovely was created for us by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the Milanese duo whose exuberant sensual aesthetic has dominated the catwalks of Milan for over 29 years. With her fitted bustier and wings in traditional a Sicilian print, the Dolce and Gabbana angel has all the hallmarks of an iconic Dolce design. ‘We LOOOOVE Christmas!,’ the designers tell us. ‘It’s the best day of the year, the one with the most mystery and joy. We have dinner with our families on the 24th. Then on the 25th we all have a big lunch and the menu is dedicated to the north of Italy: pasta and meat with the traditional panettone. Every year we create our own Christmas tree with the decorations that we buy during our trips and we always do a “nativity scene” with big statues that come from the Neapolitan tradition. To make your own angel, simply click the links below to print off the templates. Pin the limbs together with brass split pins (available from any stationers), and, using a piece of sparkly fabric, glue a skirt to the underneath of the angel's corset.
