This season, Louis Vuitton threw out the rule book a little bit. While Paris Fashion Week, and high end designer shows especially, call for radiant, bare complexions, sheer makeup and polished, glossy hair, this season, Louis Vuittion eschewed all of the above in favour of a more youthful, choppy and punkish vibe. Dip dye, boldly lined eyes and even supernatural hues of hair ruled the catwalk, with each model having a bespoke, tweaked take on Nicolas Ghesquiere's vision. Every hair length from cascading mermaid locks to totally shaved heads made an appearance, with a mix of blunt, swinging fringes and side-swept bangs alike.
In fact, if they was one words to sum up the whole show, it would be blunt. Fringes were finished with straight, precise ends, and the lengths were piecey, separated into thick sections with a matte finish. Think hair that was maybe slightly oily, then salt sprayed and mussed up. This was beauty with an edge - we spotted two models with pink hair, and several with aggressively sculpted cheekbones. This isn't a look that smiles and giggles - it's one that scowls proudly, as the edgy makeup proved.
With kohl liner painted thick under the girls' lower lashes, it was a subversive statement on the winged liner that was as defiant as it was chic. Adding a slightly more streetwise, youthful edge, the eye makeup tied together everything else, and added uniformity to otherwise individualistic models. Each girl had the look of a young, rebellious Parisenne - sporty and active, but still not without her beauty staples. All these sharp, clean lines of hair and makeup removed any romantic, frilly connotations from an otherwise pretty show. It added grit, and more importantly - a point of difference.
