Like it or not, we’re now officially in the thick of the festive season, and if you’re yet to find the perfect party dress to take you through to New Year’s Eve, we’d forgive you for starting to panic a little. Luckily, L.K. Bennett has just the thing to solve any such sartorial dilemmas – and yes, it involves sequins. Lots of sequins.
Earlier this season, theDuchess of Cambridge’s go-to high street store teamed up with another Middleton-approved fashion favourite, Preen, for a capsule collection, with the 15-piece line putting an easy-to-wear spin on Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi’s trademark prints and eye-catching silhouettes.
While the silk wrap dresses (the Vali, £450, was spotted on early adopter Olivia Palermo during London Fashion Week S/S’18) and the cosy knits caught our eye at the time, it seems that our dream party season dress was actually hiding in plain sight. We’re talking about the Sonic sequin dress, a long-sleeved, full-skirted style decked out in dark pink sequins that’s currently priced at £385 (down from its original price of £550, because the fashion gods have been kind).
The simple shape (no fussy cut-outs or hard-to-wear necklines here) means that, despite the statement-making sequins and bold colour, the Sonic is remarkably easy to wear. It seems that a clutch of celebrities would agree, too. After modelling the dress in the L.K. Bennett x Preen campaign shoot, Erin O’Connor chose to wear the style again for the collection’s launch party. She’s since been joined by presenter Fearne Cotton (who teamed hers with a pair of slip-on trainers in an Instagram post, proving that sequins do work with dressed-down accessories), singers Sophie Ellis Bextor and Annie Lennox, and actress Olivia Grant.
Currently available online at lkbennett.com and in L.K. Bennett stores, we’ll race you to the checkout...
