Ever since it was announced that Kate Moss was returning to her role at Topshop, we have been guessing what she has up her fringed leather sleeve. Topshop have slowly been dripping nuggets of info, hinting that it would be a greatest hits tour of Kate Moss' wardrobe with Kate classics such as a one-shoulder lemon dress. Well now images of the entire 40 piece collection have landed and as expected it is vintage Kate Moss.
If you have grown up wanting to dress like Kate Moss, this collection will certainly help. We're talking fringing, 'I'm with the band scarves,' feathered LBDs, bolero jackets and cocktail dresses. Oh and did we mention fringing? The Kate classics are joined by vintage hero pieces that she hunts for when shopping in second hand stores. A popular item will be the fringed leather jacket similar to one she wore to the Rolling Stones, which she describes as her 'gig jacket.'
This collection will be more premium-led, with intricate cocktail dresses, which are £600, alongside pieces starting at £38. Part of the collection is inspired by Kate's travels in the Balearic Islands with embroidered crochet lace dresses, smock tops and kaftans. Then there's the pyjama dressing section with silk oriental-inspired patterns, sourced in London's Soho.
We have Cocktail Hour, a line packed with dresses drenched in beading, sequin and sparkle. Luxury is the name of the game. Finally Tailoring Noir brings, you guessed it, tailoring with tuxes and trouser suits in black and black gold metallic mixes.
Phillip Green told WWD that Kate has become more commercially savvy saying “Uncle Phil, we need more dresses,” and she would joke to him “'Just feel the quality, feel the fabric, Uncle Phil.’” “We were much more focused this time, very clearly focused on what we wanted to achieve and what she wanted to achieve. Kate has learned a hell of a lot about the process, and she’s given a lot more time to the collection,” said Green.
Mossy said of this collection: “I have really missed being involved in the design process, and working with the team at TOPSHOP. I am very excited to create a new collection that bears my name. Now more than ever with London being at the forefront of fashion as it feels like I’m back home working with TOPSHOP.”
